On January 22, 1823, Ferenc Kölcsey, one of the greatest poets in Hungarian literary history, completed the manuscript of the Hungarian National Anthem. Although the poem was officially recognized as the national anthem only in 1989, the date it was finished is now celebrated as the Day of Hungarian Culture.
