Whether you are looking to discover your next favorite beer or simply want to enjoy a relaxed evening in the heart of Budapest, the Downtown Beer Festival has something for everyone. Admission is free, and the central location makes it an easy addition to a day of sightseeing or an evening out with friends.

The star of the show is, naturally, the beer. This year’s festival brings together more than 250 different beers, ranging from Hungarian craft specialties to international favorites. With more than 45 breweries and numerous importers taking part, there will be plenty of opportunities to step outside your usual beer choices and discover something new.

To mark the festival’s 10th anniversary at Szabadság Square, a special beer has also been created: the FIRST Jubilee Festival Lager, a collaboration between SPAR Hungary and FIRST Craft Beer. This 5% ABV lager has a golden color and a light, refreshing character, combining crisp malt notes with subtle hopping. It is an easy-drinking choice designed to fit perfectly into the late-summer festival atmosphere. You can try the Jubilee Festival Lager at the Beer House and FIRST stands throughout the festival.

The Beer House will once again be one of the festival’s highlights, offering visitors the chance to explore a wide selection of beers and beer specialties. SPAR and INTERSPAR stores offer more than 220 types of beer and beer specialties throughout the year, and some of their most exciting selections will also be available at the festival. Alongside familiar favorites, the range includes beers from several Hungarian small-scale craft breweries.

New this year is the SPAR-Regnum Terrace, where visitors can pair their beers with burgers, hot dogs and pizza slices. Because let's face it: a cold beer and a great burger are a pretty hard combination to beat.

One of the festival’s biggest advantages is its location. Szabadság Square, in Budapest’s District V, is just steps away from the Parliament and many of the city center’s major attractions. The square’s green surroundings, mature trees and open grassy areas create a relaxed setting that feels very different from a typical festival venue. During the day, it is an ideal place to take a break while exploring the city; as evening falls, the lights, music, food, beer and crowds transform the square into a lively festival destination.

The venue is also easily accessible on foot and by public transport, making it a convenient stop after a day of sightseeing or a natural meeting point for an evening with friends.

You do not have to be a dedicated beer enthusiast to enjoy the Downtown Beer Festival. Whether you are passionate about craft beer, curious to try new styles or simply looking for a relaxed evening in Budapest, there is plenty to explore.

With free admission, an impressive beer selection and one of the city’s most atmospheric locations, it is the perfect way to make the most of the final days of summer.
