The creators of the new productions have transposed the setting to the era of Wagner, creating a steampunk world reminiscent of the visionary, futuristic past imagined by Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, and Mary Shelley.
Wagner’s Lohengrin tells the story of the mysterious Knight of the Swan, who comes to rescue Elsa, a woman accused of murder. He marries her on the condition that she never asks about his true identity. However, on their wedding day, Elsa, influenced by the manipulative Ortrud, asks the forbidden question.
The large-scale production features over 250 participants, including Christopher Sokolowski, Szabolcs Brickner, Johanni van Oostrum, Klára Kolonits, Judit Kutasi, and Szilvia Rálik. It also includes the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra, Chorus, and Children’s Chorus.
Following its premiere on 15 November 2025, Lohengrin is performed three more times during the season: 16, 18, and 20 November at the Hungarian State Opera.
The show is 4 hours and 45 minutes long with two intermissions.
