To mark the occasion, BBC Earth will air a special selection of Attenborough’s work throughout the month. Highlights include Life on Earth -  Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure, offering rare behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and personal reflections on the groundbreaking Life on Earth series.

Attenborough’s remarkable career spans from the era of black-and-white television to modern HD and 3D filmmaking. Since joining the BBC in 1952, he has transformed nature storytelling, inspiring generations and deepening global understanding of the natural world. His work has earned numerous Emmy and BAFTA awards, a knighthood, and the prestigious Order of Merit.

Wild London reveals the hidden wildlife of the city he has called home for over 70 years - from peregrine falcons at Parliament to deer in East London and beavers living near urban developments. It premieres on May 8 at 18:30 on BBC Earth.

Also premiering that evening is Life on Earth - Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure, a deeply personal look back at the iconic series that set the standard for modern nature documentaries. Featuring never-before-heard stories, it captures both the challenges and triumphs of filmmaking in a very different era.

Additional programming includes Attenborough and the Jurassic Sea Monster, Asia, Mammals, Africa, Kingdom, Our Planet, and Planet Earth III.

Attenborough’s impact is immeasurable, but his message remains clear: “In the past, nature determined how we survive. Today, we determine how nature survives.”

Celebrating his legacy is also a reminder - through his films or small everyday actions - that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility.
