The Budapest Photo Festival is an annual city-wide exhibition series that represents the contemporary and classical values of photography through the presence of the Hungarian and international art scene. The aim of the Festival is to make Budapest the „City of Photography.”

The Festival
has two highlighted exhibitions as a frame: t
he opening international show and a Hungarian contemporary overview. The emphasis – next to the two highlighted exhibitions – is on the presentation of the national and international contemporary scene by the program of the biggest galleries, museums, and the International Cultural Institutes of the Hungarian Capital.

This year's festival launched with a significant national premiere: the first-ever Hungarian exhibition of legendary German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh's iconic works.

Since the 1980s, Peter Lindbergh has been one of the most influential figures in fashion photography. He used minimalist techniques to capture timeless characters, redefining beauty with his distinctive vision. His approach and new vision started a new trend, the supermodel era, in which the models in the pictures were no longer used as characters or collaborators but as main characters. He defined female beauty as consisting of individuality, personality, self-acceptance, and, where appropriate, freedom and self-realization.

The festival's main venues are the Műcsarnok and the Kiscelli Museum, where a different theme is used each year to present Hungarian photographers in a group exhibition. The Festival also involves many public and professional programs: lectures, workshops, photomarathons, museum educational events, and portfolio reviews.

The Budapest Photo Festival runs between March 29 and June 22.
