The Day of the Hungarian Culture

Kölcsey’s "Hymnus" is a hymn and one of the oldest forms of lyric poetry. It serves as a prayer from a nation in despair, a nation that has endured tremendous suffering for centuries.

The anniversary commemorations provide an opportunity to reflect on our millennial traditions and roots, strengthen our national consciousness, and highlight the material and spiritual values that represent our history.

On this occasion, Hungarians, both at home and abroad, come together to celebrate Hungarian cultural values. They organize various events, including exhibitions, concerts, book launches, literary evenings, and theater performances.

Additionally, they participate in the "Together the Nation Sings" program and the finals of the Hungarian Playwriting Competition. On this day, awards are presented to recognize contributions to Hungarian culture, education, and pedagogy.

An interesting fact: when viewed under UV light, the music score of the Hungarian hymn becomes visible on Hungarian passports, meaning that every Hungarian carries the text with them while traveling.

If you are interested in Hungarian culture, be sure to attend one of the celebrations.
