Tchaikovsky's classic ballet has been a fundamental part of the holiday season for decades. The enchanting story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King perfectly complements the Christmas season, making it one of the most popular performances during this time.

Hungarian theaters and concert halls present this beloved work every December. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker has been cherished in holiday celebrations around the world for many years. As the most popular fairy tale of all time, it captivates each generation, prompting questions about whether we can find contentment in appearances or if true happiness requires us to believe that everything possesses a soul and that every object has a purpose.

Children's faith can change the world, reminding adults that we need to feel, not just see. An ugly little wooden doll, trapped in her useless body, is a prisoner of an evil curse. A little girl sees the sentient soul within the colorfully painted doll and does everything she can to break the curse.

The Nutcracker has been a vital part of Christmas celebrations worldwide for decades, particularly at the Budapest Opera House. In honor of the previous version, which had been a staple of the repertoire for many years and is now nearly a museum piece, a reimagined production with a new visual exhibition was created for Christmas 2015.

This new adaptation respects the traditions of classical ballet while meeting the expectations of the 21st century in terms of dance and visual arts. The choreography for this fairy tale ballet was crafted by the internationally renowned Wayne Eagling, a true Nutcracker specialist, in collaboration with the company's director, Tamás Solymosi. For the first time in the history of the Hungarian National Ballet, a globally acclaimed artist developed choreography specifically tailored to the company members, taking local characteristics into account. This approach enhances the Christmas magic, presenting it to the audience in an even more spectacular and dance-like manner.

Other venues, such as the Budapest Operetta Theatre and the Budapest Congress Center, may also host the ballet, so it's important to check their schedules to find the best seasonal dates and locations for this festive classic.
